When to test for pregnancy The most reliable time to test for pregnancy is when you are past your typical luteal phase (when your period is due or late). Some women may get a positive test sooner especially with the extra sensitive tests on the market these days. It has been reported of women receiving a positive as early as 7 or 8 dpo (days past ovulation) although this may not be a reliable time for most women. If you are unsure of your typical luteal phase length it is best to wait until at least 14dpo before you may get a positive test. If you test earlier and do not get a positive, do not give up hope as it still may be too early for the HCG hormone to show in your urine. HCG can usually be detected in the blood before it is detected in the urine as it takes longer to process into the urine. If a pregnancy test is positive it s advised to consult your doctor or health care provider to confirm the pregnancy with a blood test and to advise you of what to expect when you are pregnant, including tests, ultrasounds etc. Luteal Phase: the time between ovulation and menstruation. Your luteal phase should not vary more than a day or two each month. HCG: Human chorionic gonadotropin - The hormone present when a woman is pregnant. This hormone is what pregnancy tests detect.
